This Thirsty Thursday we are going back to basics. There is nothing more motivating than waking up in the morning with extra bounce, vigor and a zest for life!

Here’s my fast remedy to morning energy, even for those of who claim you are not a “morning person” and may begin each morning rolling out of bed, falling over your feet.

Your challenge is to try this detoxification task first thing each morning for 12 days consecutively. Then post your comments on this page or send me an email and tell me how you are feeling. Here’s Why:

  1. Warm lime or lemon water helps purify and stimulate the liver by assisting in the regulation and flow of bile (helping to breakdown fats and prevent gall stones!)
  2. Lime or lemon with warm water aids digestion and detoxification. The composition of this miraculous drink is actually similar to the hydrochloric acid of our digestive juices. Hence the body decides to work harder at breaking down undigested food and eliminating toxins!
  3. Lime is a very well recognised citric fruit in the natural medicine world and is often used an aid to constipation, indigestion, piles, scurvy, peptic ulcers, respiratory illnesses, tonsillitis, gum problems, gout, high blood pressure, heart disease and urinary infection. Limes are also very effective in weight loss, stimulating metabolic processes and increasing fat burning.
  4. Ayruvedic practitioners use lime water as an aid to gaining clearer skin. As well as enjoying a soft silky face, practitioners believe you will be on the road to beating signs of aging, acne and wrinkles.
  5. Both lime and lemon water have an alkalising effect on the body. We all know we are far more resistant to disease when our body is in a higher pH zone, rather than an acidic one.
  6. Dentists suggest that drinking lime/lemon water can help to reduce bad breath, prevent (and stop) bleeding gums and may even reduce toothache if you’re in pain (and seeing a dentist now is not an option).

Here’s how I prepare my fresh lime water experience:

In the mornings

  • 1 favourite mug filled with boiled water
  • 1/2 lime – juice and remains dropped into mug (heat entire lime ever so slightly in microwave prior to slicing in half to increase juice extraction)
  • 1 relaxing recliner chair or couch

Throughout the day

  • 1 tall glass of filtered water
  • 6 iceblocks
  • 1/2 lime – juice and remains dropped into glass  (whole lime heated ever so slightly in microwave to increase juice extraction)
  • 1 outdoor hammock, balcony or garden step

The good news is the benefits of drinking lime/lemon water do not stop here and there is a long list of pro’s to taking on this 12 day Thirsty Thursday challenge.

Remember, you can drink warm or cold lime/lemon water throughout your day and finish your day with a lovely warm lime tea. Even though we often discuss the benefits of drinking your water first thing when you wake up, it is not just restricted to the mornings!!
