10 days to Christmas!!
Self Love CHALLENGE

I invite you to join me this Christmas in slowing down, appreciating the little things and giving yourself the care and attention you need not only to enjoy every day this season but also to prepare for all that is to come next year.
No matter what Christmas time brings, this time of year can bring mixed emotions and leave us with empty gas tanks. If we are not armed and ready, it can bring about a fast build up of stress, followed [...]

Sugar, gluten, paleo, veganism. Could we all be saying the same thing?

Paleo, Veganism, Raw Food. Could we all be right?
Colleagues, health enthusiasts, those involved in nutrition, wellness, fitness, medicine or the like. We all seem to have different views on what constitutes healthy living.
I found this a great wholistic debate with Frank Lipman, Mark Hyman, and Joel Kahn on sugar, gluten, paleo, vegetarianism and veganism and how we may all essentially be saying the same thing.

5 DAY Pre-Christmas Cleanse

By |November 18th, 2014|

We all have the capability of sticking to a plan, creating a whole new lifestyle and changing thoughts and habits. Yet most of us STILL seem to have trouble committing to our health over Christmas.
As a trainer and coach of almost 10 years (I can’t believe that number!), I have seen many healthy and unhealthy Christmas’s come and go. I have witnessed many colleagues, raw foodists, family, friends and life long clients turn into sugar-high spirits over the Christmas period. I have even had times in my life [...]

Do one thing each day that scares you!

By |August 25th, 2014|

Eleanor Roosevelt said you should do one thing every day that scares you!
Scientists all over the world have proven that crossing boundaries, jumping limitations and stepping outside of our comfort zone helps to unleash our potential, live in our purpose and produce more bliss in the world.
So Phil came home from work with an easel the other day and I giggled. I have wanted one for some time and I didn’t even know why!

For the last 2 years, I have had this crazy vision of myself as [...]

I’m back!

Maybe you wondered where I have been for so long. It was this time last year that www.marissanieves.com went in for a small makeover, ended up having some serious therapy and never came out!

So many months, so many changes and we are finally back up and running with greater force than ever before!

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know that it is my purpose to enhance others lives through health. It is what I was put on this planet to do and I am [...]

Power Up Your Shower

By |September 6th, 2013|

Taking a cooler or cold shower has been shown to increase healthy immune function! Scientific studies show those who regularly immerse themselves in cold water benefit from increased circulation, higher immunity (less colds and flu!) and increased feelings of wellness. In fact, cold water immersion is an actual remedy used to treat and facilitate progress in patients suffering depression and anxiety.

Do daily Affirmations really work?

By |August 15th, 2013|

Did you know our brains are wired to think around 60,000-70,000 thoughts per day.. AND approximately 70 percent of those thoughts are naturally negative?

Just doing a little speedy math, that is a minimum of around 42,000 negative thoughts per day!

The good news is, Deepak Chopra (world’s leading biomedical scientist on the mind) believes we can change our thought processes by re-wiring our neural brain networks (nerve patterns that create our thoughts) through lingual programming. Aka: Affirming something positive out loud!

We can think these positive thoughts, however it is best [...]

Cacao on the brain?

By |July 24th, 2013|

This week I had a mad craving for chocolate!

Strange, as I never really liked chocolate until I began enjoying raw cocoa shakes.

I started off with once a fortnight, then once a week and pretty soon I wanted it all the time. The more I had, the more I wanted.

This made me wonder about the raw food revolution, the high profits of raw cocoa manufacturers, the open tickets to cacao that fitness trainers and nutritionists were giving their clients and how over-consumption of this tasty little product may be affecting [...]

When the couch calls…

By |July 9th, 2013|

Today we went into St Vincent’s bustling town Kingstown. It was the official day of Carnival 2013 and we were excited to get road side to see all the action. The local people were wearing bright creative costumes and smiles poured through the grand stand as each section moved onto the main stage for judging. An incredible sight!

The only trouble was.. my legs were tired, I felt exhausted, thought about the couch and began to yawn! What was wrong with me?

Of course as a fitness and health coach, I [...]

True Love Smoothie

By |June 14th, 2013|

It’s THIRSTY THURSDAY and I already know what the favourite will be on the menu today.
As I sit here on a small island in the Caribbean (you would think I’m about to say “looking out over the turquoise sea and coconut trees”), I’m actually snug as a bug  indoors as it pours with rain outside (you guessed it, hurricane season started early this year!). With the downpour and cool breeze, I have a craving for something that’s going to give my soul a punch of flavour and the [...]
